IPL Photofacial or Intense Pulse Light uses light based technology to help treat the appearance of sun damaged skin, fade dark spots, freckles, hyperpigmentation, acne scars, reduce large pores and diffuse redness caused by broken capillaries or Rosacea. It works by delivering Intense Pulsed Light technology below the skin’s surface, light is absorbed by the melanin responsible for brown ‘age spots’ or ‘sun spots’ and also the blood vessels that are responsible for broken capillaries. The body’s natural processes then removes the injured tissue, improving the overall look and tone of the skin, while boosting skin firmness and elasticity, resulting in a more youthful appearance. The IPL Photofacial is perfect for those patients who are ready to reverse years of sun damage, but are not yet in need of a more invasive procedure. Although results will be seen after one treatment, IPL treatments are commonly done in a series of 3-4 treatments, a treatment 3 to 4 weeks apart.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What areas can be treated with IPL Photofacial Skin Rejuvenation? An IPL treatment can be used on almost any sun damaged area of the skin. The most commonly treated areas include the face, neck, chest and hands.
How many treatments will I need? Generally we recommend 3-4 IPL Photofacial treatments (each 3 weeks apart) depending on the amount of damage to the skin. After the initial series, maintenance sessions are encouraged. Most of the damage to our skin occurred early on in life. What brings it to the surface is more sun exposure.
Who should not get a IPL Photofacial Skin Rejuvenation treatment? It is not safe for excessively tanned skin, recently sun-tanned skin or for anyone who may receive excess sun exposure in the immediate weeks following treatment. This treatment is not advisable for women who are pregnant or breast feeding, anyone with metal implants such as pacemakers, current or history of cancer, poorly controlled endocrine disorders, autoimmune disorders, diseases that may be stimulated by light such as epilepsy, those with a history of keloids, fragile skin, abnormal wound healing response, anyone taking Accutane, any active condition in treatment area such as eczema, psoriasis or rash, and those who use medication, herbs, supplements and vitamins know to induce photosensitivity. For individuals who get fever blister attacks (herpes simplex), an anti-herpes medication should be taken prior to treatment.
What can I expect during an IPL Photofacial Skin Rejuvenation treatment? Each IPL Photofacial Skin Rejuvenation treatment lasts 15-30 minutes. We will remove all make-up, sun block and face creams. Men will be asked to shave on the day of treatment, prior to their arrival. Eye shields will be applied to protect the eyes. A cool soothing gel will be applied on the skin prior to treatment, which will help reduce any discomfort. After the procedure, you will be given any additional post-treatment instructions.
What can I expect after an IPL Photofacial Skin Rejuvenation treatment? The IPL Photofacial Skin Rejuvenation treatment requires little to no downtime. For the first 48 hours, avoid anything that creates heat- hot baths, saunas, massages, and exercise.
